Broth recipe for Won-Ton soup

In a busy Chinatown alleyway, the bewitching aromas of won ton soup wafted through the air, attracting hungry passers-by. The steaming broth in the large cauldrons crackled gently, scenting the nostrils of onlookers and regulars alike. There are lots of recipes for wonton, but we've taken a different approach, focusing on wonton broth. Our creation will evolve over time, but here's our current version of the broth, which has been a great success so far.

Here's a recipe for won-ton anyway


  • 250g ground pork
  • 1 cup finely chopped peeled shrimp (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 package wonton leaves (available in Asian grocery stores)

Instructions :

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, shrimp, scallions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and sesame oil. Make sure the stuffing is well blended.
  2. Place a small amount of filling in the center of each wonton leaf.
  3. Moisten the edges of the sheet with water and fold in half to form a triangle or rectangle, pressing well to seal the edges.
  4. Repeat the process until all the stuffing has been used.
  5. To cook wontons, you can fry, steam or poach them in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes, until they are cooked through.



    Step 1

    In a saucepan, add chicken broth, sesame oil, parsley and soy sauce.

    Step 2

    Thinly slice the carrots and green onions and add to the stock.

    Step 3

    Cook for 30 minutes and add your Won-Ton
